Mike, Fred and Jasper were what made the Rugby Tap special and they will forever be in our memories.
Mike worked in the hospitality industry for over 50 years starting at the age of nine in my Grandad’s bakery.
Mike spent over 10 years working for himself running pubs, taking over the Rugby Tap in 2017.
Mike was a real ale enthusiast and is passionate about stocking local and because it's pour from the cask, the less miles its done the better it tastes.
Ken worked at the Rugby Tap since the start, even fitting out the bar before it opened. He had a lot of different jobs in his life; painting and decorating, cleaning windows and factory work, but found his vocation as the front man at the Tap.
He worked hard to get to know our customers and part of our unique-ness is that we can personally greet our customers and make recommendations based on their previous drink choices.
Jasper the springer spaniel was the true face of the Tap. Jasper took the role very seriously and greeted customers at the door, followed them to their seats and made snack suggestions to go with their drink choices. He enjoyed a wander by himself if the pub door was left open, sometimes nipping to the gym or Thai restaurant next door. He also enjoyed the real ale drip trays, but unfortunately suffered with awful hangovers! Jasper loved other dogs too (although that may be because their owners usually brought treats along with them).
